You’re only as good as your people

The best things in life are shared. Ever heard an old head or someone you look up to, say that? Or maybe it was just a homie giving you good advice. Who knows, but you’ve probably heard it. I know I have.

It was like a sunset I’ll never forget - you know the kind that are magical and give off crazy pink clouds and almost fluorescent flashes as the sun meets the ocean horizon line? Yea it was like that; but it was a big homie I look up to saying it in such a nonchalant way - over a glass of whiskey in the hills of Tennessee after a home-cooked dinner and man, with a huge smile on his face - “well you know what they say? The best things in life are shared. Cheers!”

He had no idea that would sit with me for the rest of my life and more importantly, I had no idea that I would sub-consciously train myself to pop that quote across the front brain anytime I needed a nudge to take the leap on something or someone I believed in. Lately, it’s been the ‘someone’ factor; I’ve been working the hardest I can on the art and staying as true as I’m capable of to the grind but every corner I turn, I realize more and more, it’s all about the people. I keep coming back to my people - the people I love, the people that challenge me, the people that believe in me, the people I believe in. Everything we do, everything we want for or dream for or strive toward in this life - it all builds with and around our people. Your village is your mindset and your heart- your life form and your consciousness. And I’ve realized, your people are as much you as you are them. Revel in that if you have it and search for it if you don’t. Your people are out there.

Now there is nothing new here and I’m not on some Avatar or Gladiator or Brave Heart pump up speech (while I do love Mel Gibson) I’m just genuinely celebrating a moment of thanksgiving-ness. Yes, thanksgiving-ness. To be me, is a heavy duty thing (just like being you, is a heavy duty thing; being yourself, in other words, is freaking gnarly) - In the name of Imperf, I have to ask so many people everyday to believe in me and to share in my dream to create an experience greater than all of us. That’s heavy. That’s real. It’s hard and it’s worth the effort. So today on Little Friday, I say, the best things in life are shared and a lot of the time(pretty much always) really hard to achieve. If not, the hardest thing you’ll ever do. Don’t doubt yourself, humanity is only possible with all of us - share your thoughts and send it on your dreams because I can guarantee, the regret of not sharing it is much more painful than the responsibility of following through.

Happy Little Friday, Fam! Here’s your reminder to go out and live, now.

Slainte,

Mike
