Lifes a group project

As curated by Steven "schuuba Steve" Cortez

LA based country based musician and fashion experimenter

I've been making music!

I have a single coming out called “Beer Taste Better.” It’s about things tasting a little bit better when someone you used to love was still around.

01 WHAT'S KEEPING ME GROUNDED

Community
The first six months of this year were rough for the boy, but having the right people around me—from my boxing gym to my close friends and bandmates—has been my rock. Life’s a group project.

What's been keeping you grounded?

02 WHAT I'M DRINKING

Non-alcoholic beer
If you’d asked me that couple months ago, I’d have said “an infinite amount of Coors light.” But now, I’m taking time away from the sauce and dabbling in the art of non-alcoholic beer when I’m with the squad.

What are you into lately?

03 WHAT I'M READING

I wish I could say I was reading at the moment, but what’s been inspiring me lately is other local artists and their pursuit of success. A lot of what I’m doing in music right now is the behind-the-scenes stuff musicians have to go through that people don’t know about. In these moments it’s hard to create, so I find my energy and inspiration from seeing friends in the opposite season.

04 WHAT I'M INTO LATELY

Photography
I’ve been really into photography! Couple months ago I had a car break in and my camera was stolen. I was using it mainly for my own music stuff, but something about the investment of a new camera got me passionate about it—so much so it’s gotten me a new job.

What are you reading?

05 WHAT I'M LISTENING TO

RIP Jimmy Buffet, so I’ve been listening to a lot of his music. Also: Brooks and Dunn, Morgan Wallen, Rolling Stones, Elvis, and George Strait.
