Wabi Sabi

Curated by Kevin Ho

Founder of MIHO

I was born and raised in San Diego.

I married my high school crush, Jackie. Our son Marlow is eight. And our daughter Veda is six. I started a food truck called MIHO Gastrotruck way back in 2010. And over time, MIHO evolved into an artistic design, planning and catering studio for upscale events.

What's been keeping you grounded?

I love the name Imperfects because I don't think anything in life is perfect. And I don't think anything is meant to be. I'm certainly not. We're all works in progress. Wabi-sabi, baby.

What are you into lately?

01 WHAT'S KEEPING ME GROUNDED

Failure
There's something everyday that I screw up as a husband, father, boss and friend. So it's actually failure that's keeping my feet firmly on the ground and pointed in the right direction.

I believe that if we're lucky enough to surround ourselves by people who want the best for us, then they deserve the best of us. My life's goal is to serve others. When I fall short of that, it motivates me to keep at it.

WHAT IM ROCKIN'

I've been really feeling the Sherpa Shepherds Shirt in Fatigue Canvas. I wear it over a dress shirt to work. And I rock it with a t-shirt on the weekends. The sherpa lining is luxurious. I could live in it.

02 QUOTE OF THE WEEK

“Anything worth doing is worth doing poorly until you learn to do it well.”
— Zig Ziglar

03 WHAT I'M DRINKING

Truth be told, I really like drinking. So I limit myself to the weekends. But come Friday, I'm cracking open a Pure Project beer. I'm cooking dinner with a glass of dry natty red. And it's winter now, so I'm mixing a manhattan, boulevarier or gold rush.

What are you drinking?

04 WHAT I'M UP TO, HEALTH-WISE

Before the pandemic, I was dedicated to the gym. But now I do mostly bodyweight training in my garage - and it's been great! It's really made me realize how much I was overlooking how important flexibility and balance is. And yoga is a must. It's the best way to check in with your entire body to pinpoint the strengths and weaknesses. Hot tip: The Peloton app is pretty solid and really cost-effective for non-bike training and yoga.

05 WHAT I'M READING

Books on Stoicism
Over time, I've found that the core tenets of Stoicism are the truest guide for the kind of person I want to be. Even in the wackiness of the modern world, those old dudes from way back got most of it right. "Meditations" by Marcus Aurelius is life-changing. But it's not something you pick up all the time. So I have "The Daily Stoic" by Ryan Holiday on my night stand. Each morning, I read a daily lesson from the Stoic OG's. It helps me reflect and set my intentions before the day starts. You can learn a lot while you brush your teeth.

06 WHAT I'M INTO LATELY

Growing my community

I've always been social, but when I reflect on my early adulthood, I realize I wasn't super open to connecting with new people. I thought I was happy and fulfilled with the great friends I already had. Maybe now that I see my kids making their own friends for the first time, I've found a renewed spirit to grow my community and look for more friends in unexpected places. It's been really fun.
