An unrivaled atmosphere
Curated by Peter Lamden
Hairdresser

If he's not standing over a head of hair, then he's in the water or working on his collection of vintage cars and motorcycles.
A Los Angeles native, Peter Lamden's Southern California upbringing resonates in everything he does, including the effortless and natural hairstyles he creates for his clients. After nearly a decade of working in the Chris McMillan Salon in Beverly Hills, Peter has branched out and opened his own studio in the Santa Monica Canyon. He now takes his clients with an ocean view and an unrivaled atmosphere.
I just recently opened my first salon; a private studio for myself and my clients in the Santa Monica Canyon that feels like a magical little beachfront clubhouse. It wasn't really a career move that I saw coming. I knew I'd have my own place one day, but I wasn't pushing it. Then, this absolute gem of a location was offered to me by an old friend. When I saw the view and the potential of the space, I had to make the jump. It's worked out better than I ever could have imagined, and now I'm just working on that balance between business owner, father, and surfer.

What's been keeping you grounded?
01 WHAT'S KEEPING ME GROUNDED
I’m so lucky. I get to start every workday looking at the ocean. So even though I don’t get wet as often as I’d like, I’m watching waves and mind surfing all day. My two-year-old daughter has been riding a longboard with me lately. Getting to introduce her to something that’s been such a shaping force in my life has been the most grounding experience in the world.

03 WHAT I'M DRINKING
Americano & Tequio
The morning’s always an Americano with honey. My cocktail taste is pretty simple and I try to keep it clean. I’ve been sipping these ready-to-drink tequila sodas from a brand called Tequio.

04 WHAT I'M UP TO, HEALTH-WISE
Yoga
My life and my body always feel so much better when I just keep up a consistent yoga practice. Unfortunately, when life gets busy it seems to be the first thing I let slide and my back resents me for it. I’ll always be working on getting more of that.

05 WHAT I'M READING
My camera manual
Lately, I’ve just been reading the manual to my first real nice camera. I got a Fuji X100v so I plan on torturing everyone on my Instagram with obnoxious artsy amateur shit real soon. Stay tuned. I wish I read more real books—“In Search of Captain Zero” was the first book that made me want to pack up a truck and never look back.

06 WHAT I'M INTO LATELY
I’m a creature of habit. What I’m into lately is the same as what I’ve always been into. Old Porsches, new bicycles, choppers somewhere in between, and as many surfboards as I can fit in my garage. I guess lately it’s all about sharing those same things with my daughter, Poppy.
