ITS ALL JAZZ

As Curated by Michael Lynch

Look, I am not saying I have super powers but I am saying that believing in yourself is as powerful or maybe as close as we humans get to having super power and it’s really important to be well aware of the benefits and the consequences of wielding such strength or more importantly, developing such strength. Here is why, in my humble opinion of course, humans have basic needs that center around the simplest feelings: remorse, love, acceptance, fulfillment, existential hunger, emotional warmth, etc, etc.
I could go on forever but I won’t because the point is, 3 words: Human Capability Limit. I like it as an acronym: H.C.L. Been saying it to myself a lot lately, heavy check-ins with myself like ‘what the f?,’ ‘why the f?,’ ‘how the f?’ “Aight check the HCL, homie.” You know, real deep existential questions about why I exist and how I am using my time. Why do I take myself so seriously? I make garments and surfboards for a living! Well today, I realized why, because I gave myself a bit of grace for 2 mins... I realized I consider these things I make my art and my life-force, my reason for being, my way of speaking to the world, my way of explaining my HCL and my basic human needs. In other words, I am just trying to communicate with you guys, all of you.

TODAY, I HIT MY HUMAN CAPABILITY LIMIT

Well, let me be real, I hit my limit a long time ago but when you are chasing a childhood dream and you hit the limit marker, some weird type of wizardry magic happens and you find a whole new gear that you didn’t know existed. The only problem with finding a new magic gear is that you end up going so fast for so long that your engine overheats and your tires turn to dust. It’s just so exciting to find capabilities you didn’t know you had, isn’t it?!? That said, I am learning to tap into the light speed star wars magic wizard hyper gear only when the needs are gnarliest. After all, gotta use your super powers for good, right?

Let me give you an example of what I mean: sometimes I will build a moody ass garment built for rainy days and dark places that I’ve been in the world where you only see daylight for 3 hours and the piece will scream “Help Me I need to talk to someone about my creative highs and lows that create gnarly happiness and gnarly depression, one in the same!” or I will make a surfboard that is bright yellow and built for the best surf I’ve ever experienced and the point of it is to say “I love life, go out and live now!” All of this to say, that is so hard to share with you all through products listed on Imperfects.com or garments hanging in a retail store and I tend to freak out about that.
I freak out everyday that our message for Imperfects, the reason why, the will to keep going, isn’t coming through. The name of the thing was supposed to be the fall back plan for all of that but it ain’t enough and it’s so overwhelming.

Moral of the story, we all have our driving life force, whether we know it or not and it’s our super power. Our unique super human power, built to deliver the greatest levels of strength we will ever measure ourselves with, personally, and that is straight up overwhelmingly radical. Here’s my message for the homies reading today, you are enough, the way you are and becoming more of yourself is the only real goal in this life. Button up, spread out, breathe, learn what your HCL is because it all ain’t that serious.

Go call your Mom, tell your neighbor what up, speak to yourself in the mirror and show that cat some love. The world doesn’t revolve around you but you definitely need the world to revolve to be you. Peace, love and happy little friday.

P.S. All of this to say,
Mr. Lynch Blue Label 2025 is LIVE and the above message is an existential way of describing how deep I’ve been diving lately, this collection is a true, organic expression of where I am with this artistic life right now.
Please enjoy, or don’t!
Big love, either way, Fam.

Rhythm and relaxation
A space that I haven’t known for ages
No water to wash over me
I’m relying on the tide to lift me
working toward a miracle

Organic humanism
With silks and woolens
All of it’s a mystery to battle with
But ease back
Let that Jazz kick in

QUOTE OF THE WEEK

“I think I have discovered the highest good. It is love.”

- Martin Luther King. Jr.

I gotta give the big homie his time in the sun because inauguration day took that away from us this year. Peace and love, fam.
