It’s like I’m high-fiving that energy into fruition and I like it, it's become necessary to straight manifest my energy lately, due to the amount of challenges I face in a day’s work. It's been a BEAST of a ride but very gnarly as of late and I have myself to thank for making it so challenging for always wanting to do things the quality-build-it-better way. Sheesh.
Maybe there’s a better way of putting it so let me rip on a little existential bender real quick, per usual. Stick with me on this one:

When you are making Jazz, you have no choice but to stream the consciousness. Re-read that, think about it, heavy. I was born to make Jazz my life verb.

Contradictingly, Jazz is all about balancing imperfections and in regards to that first bar, finding my balance has seemed and felt absolutely impossible across the last 10 months so I’ve been going full on jazz mode. For the sake of decisions with no hesitation, it's just go time, play the bongos now time, set your rail and drop-in to the steep face now time, no hesitation, no reservation, just like Bourdain baby. BUT I wasn’t expecting the go-time heavy session to last 10 whole months, sweet baby hay-sus, I am tired!

It's been straight Jazz Music though. You ever wonder why the cats in the secret jazz room in a special alley way in Nueva York look like they are literally on a different planet while they are sessioning, lost in the mix, lost in flow? It’s because they are - they are so tapped-in that they are tapped-out. It's like a subspace, an adverse reality, a place only you can go, a place where you have clarity but your head is spinning. That’s where I’ve been lately and it's damn hard to find your balance when you are in that deep. Straight time-travel. So deep in the Imperf mix, lighting little fires everywhere along the way because we're in the depths of discovery and it's tough to see the light at times. But then all of a sudden, out of nowhere, you walk through this door and it all comes together like an orchestra.

I have this sign on my office door that says ‘Be Optimistic’ and it has become my ritual to slap it every morning like we would slap the Villanova Plate on the way out of the locker room.

Ok, now let's pop back into the real world of conversation and make sense of what I am trying to get across here. Go time has not ended, it’d quadrupled in pace and size. It's pumping quad overhead at 6 seconds and you’re not allowed to think about being tired, and I like it but the difference is, it’s because we have arrived at our new Chapter of Reality. Here’s the deal, if you’re reading this, there is an 80% chance that you know the history of Imperfects as a Company purveying inventoried quality goods and haven’t really put together that we are actually a concept for manifesting better, more optimistically toned self-expression using our finely tuned and mindfully crafted goods as vehicles for achieving that and applying it to the human experience. On the other hand, there's a 20% chance that you know Imperfects as a Mantra, a reminder that ‘you are enough’ and your imperfections are exactly what make you worthy. If you are in the 20%, I really love you for coming this far with me and I want you to know, it’s still as simple as it was in the beginning (self expression for the win, the ultimate middle finger to insecurity, leaning into the imperfections of thy mighty self to strengthen thy knightley-hood). Either way, it's just time to make more Courier Pants and Shepherds Shirts because the people have spoken and we ain’t making enough of ‘em. Now that we’ve stumbled our way into 2024 and the new HQ is flowing, we have no choice but to keep feeding the growing. Our product isn't exactly easy to make (thanks Mike, queue to self) but we are figuring it out and we want to do it with you… well, we are doing it with you but we want to do it even more. Ok let’s cover some more ground here. It's the week of Juneteenth this week and that is incredibly significant for me and Imperfects in a lot of ways which is why our shop and office will be closed on the 19th. But first and foremost, I got to celebrate the power of this National Holiday in the coolest of ways; on International Surfing Day, I was invited to speak on a panel at the Paddle for Peace Event down at La Jolla Shores and it was one of the most beautiful representations of the Black Surf Community that I have been lucky enough to be a part of. We discussed the growth of Black Business in the Surf Industry and the healthy outcome color in the water provides to the artistic and entrepreneurial world of surf. It’s a thing of beauty and a physical manifestation of our mantra at Imperfects, All Humans Invited. Further, to all of this, I feel blessed to be grinding toward my dream, hustling for my lunch, dedicated to my cause and ultimately, supported by all of you homies in this growing community. To the 80%-ers in regards to my earlier mention, if you’ve read this far, Big Love, hopefully now it feels like more than just a product.
