Wax Canvas Care Instructions

Thanks for purchasing of one of our waxed canvas garments! To help the longevity of your garment we suggest following the care instructions below.

We suggest only handwashing this garment when needed.

  1. Dust any loose dirt or lint first. This will help with the cleaning process down the line.
  2. Use cold to lukewarm water on a soft sponge across the waxed exterior. Brush lightly to avoid streaks in the wax once the water has dried.
  3. For any grease, grime or excess stains use a light soap (like Dr. Bronner's!) and a soft bristle brush, like your old toothbrush sans leftover toothpaste! Ensure all soap used for tough spots is wiped thoroughly using the sponging method in step 2.
  4. Hang dry out of direct sunlight in an open area.
  5. Repeat these same steps on the interior flannel as needed once the exterior is fully dried. Hang dry inside out if cleaning the interior as well.

The Do-Nots:

  • Do not wash with heavy soap, detergent, solvents or hot water.
  • Do not dry clean, starch or iron.
  • Do not machine wash.
  • Do not steam.
  • Do not let your loved one, family or friend wear this piece at all - we can promise you won't get it back. Remember possession is 90% of ownership!

Please note that due to the traditional method of manufacturing wax canvas, the oils may
transfer on to other materials for the first few wears.

Regular re-waxing is essential to keep the exterior water resistant. Depending on how much this coat is used, we recommending re-waxing once every year or so.
